The Federal High Court in Lagos has approved foreign medical trip for ex-governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State.
Fayose who was the Governor of Ekiti State between 2003-2006 and 2014-2018 is facing trial for allegedly looting N2.2billion from Ekiti State treasury when he was the Governor.
The nod was given by Justice C.J. Aneke after Fayose’s lawyer, Ola Olanipekun (SAN) filed an application for this purpose.
Lawyer to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), did not oppose the application.
Further hearing in the case till January 22, 2021.
Acccording to EFCC, Fayose, on June 17, 2014, “took possession of the sum of N1, 219, 000,000 to fund your 2014 gubernatorial campaign in Ekiti State, which you reasonably ought to have known formed part of the proceeds of an unlawful act, to wit: criminal breach of trust/stealing.”
He was also accused of engaging in other corrupt practices which all amount to N2.2bn.
