A former Commissioner for Information in Ogun State, Fassy Yusuf, has, in Osogbo, the Osun state capital, chided members of the National Assembly for not disclosing their allowances..
Yusuf also scored the Presidency low for not disclosing the ailment for which President Muhammadu Buhari travelled to the United Kingdom for medical attention and how much of the taxpayers’ money was spent to treat him.
Yusuf said, “The National Assembly has not told us how much they earn per month. Nigerians have been speculating and giving different figures, but those who are supposed to state the actual figures are not doing that.
“Why shouldn’t they disclose their earnings. They are being paid from taxpayers’ money; so we should know how much they earn per month.
Yusuf said that following the unwillingness of persons who were supposed to give out the information to do so, journalists should investigate and make the information available.
He also urged journalists to investigate how the Boko Haram sect acquired arms and ammunition, as well as food, despite being in a landlocked area surrounded by troops.
The Chairman, Council of Owu Obas, Oba Adekunle Oyelude, appealed to media owners to make the welfare of their workers an issue of priority.
Oyelude, who is also the Olowu of Kuta, observed that few newspapers paid their workers, saying it adversely affected their performance.
