Ahead of the Saturday, July 16, 2022 Osun gubernatorial election, the Osun State Police Command has called on members of the public and political parties to always keep the command informed ahead of any rally, campaign and procession.
This is as the police command demanded that such a procession must be duly approved by the police.
In a press statement issued by Yemisi Opalola, the command’s spokesperson, the Osun Police stated that the notice became imperative in order to avoid a clash, as well as to ensure provision of adequate security for such rallies.
According to the statement, “This is to avoid a clash, as well as to ensure provision of adequate security for such a rally/campaign/procession, as thugs/ hoodlums may use these as an opportunity to disguise/hijack it, to perpetrate their nefarious acts.
“Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olawale Olokode, deems it imperative to caution/advise members of the public/politicians/political parties in the State, especially in this fragile/electioneering period to play the game as stipulated in line with the Electoral Act, 2010.”
“The CP solicits for the understanding and cooperation of all political parties and also requests strong synergy between the police and members of the public, in order to sustain the peaceful and serene environment currently being enjoyed in the State,” the statement concluded.
