Oyo 2023: Makinde’s deputy, Olaniyan dumps PDP for APC

Ahead of 2023 general elections, the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan, has dumped the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

In a statement on Sunday, he said that he has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

It was learnt that the defection of Olaniyan from PDP to APC is coming a few days after the state governor, Makinde dropped him as his running mate.

It will be recalled that Olaniyan and Makinde were jointly elected as Deputy Governor and Governor on the platform of PDP in 2019.

Olaniyan who hails from the Oke-Ogun geopolitical zone, on Sunday said, “Which official announcement do you want me to make?

“My friends and people asked me to leave PDP.

“I have joined APC.”

Before this new development unfolded, speculations were rife that the deputy governor would leave PDP, though he had severally denied the it.

Speaking during the last Eld-Fitri festival , he disclosure that God would determine his next political career.

He said recently that about five political parties were asking him to contest under their umbrellas.
