The upper legislative chamber, the Senate on Thursday turned rowdy over the electoral act amendment bill.
It was learnt that the uproar erupted when Sabi Abdullahi, senate deputy whip, proposed an amendment to section 50 (3) of the electoral bill.
“The commission may transmit results of elections by electronic means where and when practicable,” the section reads.
According to Abdullahi, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) must certify that national coverage is adequate while the national assembly must approve before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) can transmit election results.
However, reacting, Senator Albert Bassey, kicked against it and said the initial proposal made by the committee should be retained.
The Senate subsequently moved into a closed session following the uproar.
