Nigerian youths are not vying for elected positions.
This was raised on the sideline of the recent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention in Abuja by the former Rivers Governor, Celestine Omehia who spoke exclusively to politico.ng.
While he advocates for more youths to be in mainstream politics, Omehia added that
“our youths are afraid.”
A situation he blames on the culture of Nigerians, that is respecting and not challenging elders.
When asked about financing and the God-father factor, he laughed.
He explained that most youths don’t even think about it or believe they can make a difference.
Omehia mentioned the current President of France and asked why can’t Nigerian youths aspire to be such.
He said he will support any youth that comes out to serve since he contested for his local government Chairmanship position after his Youth Service at the age of 31.
