The Ogun State chapter of New Nigeria People’s Party petitioned the state Assembly to impeach the State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, and his Deputy, Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele, over the allegation of abdication of duty.
It should be noted that the governor returns from his trip to the United Kingdom on Thursday.
The party said the governor allegedly failed to transmit a letter to the Assembly notifying it of his trip and also failing to hand over to his deputy.
The chairman of the party, Olaposi Oginni, who submitted the petition to the Assembly asked the lawmakers to immediately commence impeachment proceedings against Abiodun and Salako-Oyedele.
He, however, addressed a press conference accusing Abiodun and his deputy of travelling out of the country without properly handing over.
According to the party, both Abiodun and his deputy committed an impeachable offence and violated the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Oginni vowed that the party would approach the court if the Assembly failed to impeach Abiodun and his deputy
He said, “We are therefore calling on the leadership of the Assembly and every member of the Assembly to do the needful by asking and making the governor to face the process of impeachment.”
