Court cancels APC gubernatorial primaries in Akwa-Ibom

The plan of the All Progressive Congress APC to win the gubernatorial election in Akwa-Ibom State suffered a setback as court on Monday annulled its primary  held in the State on May 26, 2022.

In a case file with number FHC/UY/144/2022, a former aide to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Ita Enang, had gone to court claiming the APC primary was characterised by several illegalities.

Enang, in one of his claims, said that Akan Udofia was not a member of the APC in the State.

But Udofia argued the APC had given him a waiver that qualified him to contest the primary.

In a judgement on Monday, Justice Agatha Okeke of the Federal High Court invalidated the APC primary and ordered the party to conduct another primary within two weeks.

Justice Okeke also dismissed the purported waiver granted Udofia and ordered the party to conduct another primary in a fortnight where authentic governorship flag bearer of APC in the State will emerge.

The Judge also ordered that Udofia, who claimed to have won the aborted primary election of APC in the State, should not participate in the fresh party primary.

Reacting to the judgement, Udofia assured his supporters that he will be on the ballot.
